ALQI Helping Hands

This program is a combination of several ALQI programs and community partnerships. Essentially, when a need is uncovered, every effort will be made to assist the child/family with that need. ALQI pursues grant funds to assist with a variety of needs as well.

Children’s Health and Maintenance Plan (CHAMP)

To ensure treatment for those children with caries, the CHAMP program organizes the dental screenings in the schools each fall and makes personal family contact until any problems are resolved.

The statistical outcomes provide information on the effectiveness of the ALQI program and are provided to the schools, used for grant writing, and for research.

In 2003 CHAMP expanded to include collection of BMI data. In 2021 CHAMP began its busing program whereby, with parental permission, children are picked up at school by the CHAMP bus and chaperone, taken to the Scott County Dental Clinic for treatment, and returned to school.

Scott County Dental Clinic

In 1999 there were over 4,000 children in Scott County with TennCare insurance, which no dentist in the County accepted. The Scott County Dental Clinic opened in 2000 with Scott County Government paying to remodel the building, as well as cover the rent and utilities for several years. Dental equipment for the Clinic was donated from all across the State of Tennessee. There have been several dentists over the years that contributed their services to the Clinic. The latest dentist to be part of this program is Caleb Thompson, DDS. Dr. Thompson continues to be a great asset to the Clinic. ALQI is proud to provide support and oversight for this Clinic.

Agape Christian Learning Center

Agape Christian Learning Center is a Christian preschool for children ages 2½ to 4 years old. The program primarily serves the most disadvantaged children of the Scott County communities in a safe, language rich, and Christian environment. This program provides services for up to 56 economically eligible students and accepts a limited number of fee-based children. The total size of each class will not exceed 15 students per day with a certified teacher and one aide between the two. Approved volunteers are welcomed and encouraged.

The program has two groups: Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday while following the daily closure of the Scott County School System. The children receive breakfast, snack, and lunch each day. As part of ensuring the success of this program, there are regular communications with parents. Strategies are developed to encourage each child’s healthy development and these strategies are discussed with parents. All of this is wrapped in the love of the Lord Jesus Christ as we hope to share God’s love and grace with all who will participate as part of the work of the Kingdom of God.
